history

Stöckach Castle

Stöckach was an old feudal village of the Würzburg bishopric and was first mentioned in a document in 1340. The place went to many noble families as a fief. In 1454 the village came from the customs officers of Rottenstein to the episcopal court master Georg Fuchs von Schweinshaupten . In 1658 Heinrich Ernst von Volgstädt owned the village and manor. In 1725, his successor Dietrich Ernst von Volgstädt sold it to the Lords of Hettersdorf . They had Stöckach Castle and the Catholic Church built by 1770 . Possibly for financing they sold the village to the von Drachsdorf family in 1770 , who were followed by the Hutts zu Stolzenberg . In 1908, the Petersburg ambassador Ernst Freiherr von Grunelius owned the palace. In 1935 the estate was divided into independent farms by the Bavarian State Settlement. The castle was built by Ernst von Hettersdorf in 1730/33. During the Nazi era , it was used as a labor camp for women. After the war, the castle was used as a retirement home from 1946 to 1952. From 1955 the castle was the seat of the Franconian Theater for many years . Over the past few decades the owner has changed several times.

On May 1, 1978, the place was incorporated into the municipality of Bundorf.
