Louisiana State University
The Louisiana State University ( LSU , official name of Louisiana State University and Agricultural and Mechanical College ) is a state university in Baton Rouge in the US state of Louisiana . It was expanded and modernized in particular by the controversial politician and governor of Louisiana Huey Long . With currently 33,587 students, it is the largest college in Louisiana and the most important location of the Louisiana State University system . The university was founded in 1860.
She gained particular fame through the New Critics such as Robert Penn Warren and Cleanth Brooks , who taught at LSU and made numerous authors from the southern states known worldwide. In 1935 they founded the literary magazine Southern Review at LSU , which is still in existence today. The German exile Rudolf Heberle , a student of Ferdinand Tönnies , was professor of sociology at LSU.
Sports
The LSU sports teams are the Tigers . The football team plays its home games at Tiger Stadium . The university is a member of the Southeastern Conference .
