Xavier University of Louisiana ( XULA ) is a Catholic-oriented university in New Orleans , the largest city in the US state of Louisiana .
After over 4,100 students before Hurricane Katrina (2005) there are now over 4,000 students again. In 2007 there were 521 graduates, a total of more than 18,000.
mission
The XULA is the only institute of 105 " historically Black " and 253 " Catholic " colleges that combines both labels. It can also claim to be the only one founded by a papally canonized saint, namely Katherine Maria Drexel .
The aim is to support a just and humane society. It prepares its students to take on roles in leadership and service to society. This preparation takes place in a pluralistic teaching and learning environment with all relevant means including research and services.

- Xavier University of Louisiana is Catholic and historically Black. The ultimate purpose of the University is the promotion of a more just and humane society. - Sherrie Brown Littlejohn - Vice President and Press Secretary of the telecommunications company SBC Messaging in Ramon, California , a subsidiary of SBC Communications
- Rosalind Miller - Director of the JB Henderson Family Investment Center in New Iberia, Louisiana, serving low-income earners
- Patrice Jean - honored at Princeton University as "Unsung Heroine" for her social rights efforts and with a prize for "effectiveness in teaching molecular biology"
