Rebecca (Becky) Lavelle (* 5. December 1974 in Minnetonka , Minnesota as Becky Gibbs ) is a former American triathlete .

Career

In her youth, Becky Gibbs was very successful in swimming with her twin sister Jenny. As a teenager, Becky won many titles as the best female swimmer in the state of Minnesota for seven years. Before she turned professional triathlon, she studied kinesiology at Louisiana State University (LSU). Here she was able to show her athletic strength, came ten times into the national best selection and got the All-American status NCAA. Despite the rigorous training and competitions, she graduated with the distinction summa cum laude .

Becky's twin sister, Jenny, also attended LSU, although she wasn't on the college team. Jenny became Becky's biggest fan.

She started in the American national triathlon team in 1999 and has been married to the triathlete Brian Lavelle since 2002 . In 2004 she was sidelined for a year due to an injury. In 2005 she became the American champion on the short distance triathlon (1.5 km swimming, 40 km cycling and 10 km running).

In 2007 she also became the US triathlon long distance champion. In December of that year, Becky Lavelle lost her sister after a tragic accident. To support the mourning process and to raise awareness of the common illness of postpartum mood crises, Becky and her family founded the "Jenny's Light" foundation.

At the Ironman 70.3 World Championships in Florida in 2008 she was third. In 2010 their daughter was born and she was on maternity leave. In 2012 Becky Lavelle declared her active time as a triathlon professional over. Becky Lavelle lives in Rio del Mar and works as a coach.
