Ebert Harry Van Buren (* 6. December 1924 in Tela , Honduras ; † 14. June 2019 in Monroe , Louisiana ) Nickname : Red , was a US American football player in the National Football League (NFL). He played as a fullback for the Philadelphia Eagles . Ebert Van Buren was the younger brother of Steve Van Buren , who was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1965 .

career

Ebert Van Buren was born in Honduras. Following the untimely death of his parents, he was raised by his grandparents in New Orleans at the age of six . During World War II he served in the United States Army and fought in the Asian theater of war, where he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal .

Like his brother Steve Van Buren, he studied psychology at Louisiana State University and played American football with the Tigers from 1947 to 1950 . After the 1949 season, Van Buren played with his team in the Sugar Bowl , which was clearly lost to the University of Oklahoma 35-0.

In 1951, Van Buren was drafted seventh in the first round by his older brother's professional team, the Philadelphia Eagles . The team was coached by Wayne Millner . Van Buren played there in the offense of the team alongside his brother as fullback. After three years of play, Ebert Van Buren ended his professional career in Philadelphia .

After the career

Ebert Van Buren was married and had five children. As a psychologist, he ran a practice in Monroe . In 2015, he was inducted into his former college's hall of fame .
