Seimone Augustus (born April 30, 1984 in Baton Rouge , Louisiana , United States ) is a professional basketball player. She currently plays for the Minnesota Lynx in the Women's National Basketball Association as a shooting guard .
Career
college
Seimone Augustus played as a shooting guard for the Louisiana State University women's basketball team ( LSU Tigers ) . Augustus led the Tigers to the semifinals three times in a row. She averaged 19.3 points, 5.2 rebounds and 2 assists (assists) per game in college. Even though she couldn't win a title with the Tigers, she won several awards like the Wooden Award and the Wade Trophy . She was also named Naismith College Player of the Year .
Women's National Basketball Association
Seimone Augustus was voted first in the 2006 WNBA Draft by the Minnesota Lynx . In her first season for the Lynx, she achieved an average of 21.9 points per game, and she was also voted WNBA Rookie of the Year . In the 2007 season she was able to improve her already excellent points average to 22.6 points per game. Only Lauren Jackson was able to end this season with a better point average. She was also elected to the WNBA All-Star Team for the second time in a row. She stayed with the Minnesota team over the next few seasons. Although her statistics did not quite reach the level of the first two seasons, she still counted in the starting line-up of the team in every game she played. Due to an injury she had to take several breaks for a few games. Nevertheless, she was an important part of the Lynx team, who reached the WNBA finals six times during this time and won the title in 2011 , 2013 , 2015 and 2017 . When she won the first title in 2011, she was honored as the best player in the final series .
Europe (2006 to 2016)
During the break of the season in the WNBA, Seimone Augustus played regularly for clubs in Europe, like many WNBA players. She was mostly active for teams from Russia, most recently for Dynamo Kursk .
International
Seimone Augustus was also successful with the national team . She won her first international title in 2003 at the Junior Women's Basketball World Cup. At the 2006 Women's Basketball World Cup, she took 3rd place with the US team. At the American Basketball Championship for women in 2007 , she played her part in winning her first senior title. In 2008 she won the Olympic gold medal for the first time at the Summer Olympics in Beijing . She was able to repeat this Olympic victory with the US national team in London in 2012 and in Rio de Janeiro in 2016 . She also won the title with the US team at the 2014 Women's Basketball World Cup .
