WNBA Rookie of the Year Award
The WNBA Rookie of the Year Award is an annual award for the best young rookie from the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA). The winner of this award is determined by a vote among sports journalists and television reporters. Cheryl Ford and Maya Moore are the only players to date to have received the WNBA Rookie of the Year Award and won the WNBA Championship in the same season.
At the beginning of the league, in addition to the best young player, the best newcomer to the league was also selected. This WNBA Newcomer of the Year Award went to players who played their first season in the WNBA, but who no longer came under the term junior player because they had a career before the WNBA. From the year 2000 this honor was not continued.
