In the three years of existence, the club had four draft rights in the first round of the WNBA draft . With the exception of the 2001 season, the franchise each had a draft pick in the first round. In 2001 two players could even be selected in the first round.

The Fire had the highest draft pick before the 2001 season , when Jackie Stiles was selected as the fourth player by the Portland team. Stiles was able to meet the expectations placed in her and was voted the best newcomer of the year after her first season in the WNBA . This is particularly noteworthy as Lauren Jackson and Tamika Catchings were also in this draft year .
