Eastern Conference (WNBA)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Eastern Conference is one of the two conferences in the highest North American women's basketball league, the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA). After the 2009 season , the Detroit Shock were relocated to Tulsa . Due to this move and the cessation of gaming operations by the Sacramento Monarchs , the Shock were incorporated into the Western Conference . Like the Western Conference, the Eastern Conference has consisted of six teams since the 2010 season .

Playoff mode

From the 2000 season to the 2015 season , the top four teams reached the Eastern Conference Playoffs . The teams played a series of games against the same opponent. The team that was the first to record two wins got into the next round. The winner of the Eastern Conference played against the winner of the Western Conference for the title. In 2016 , a cross-conference playoff format was introduced in the WNBA.
