The Utah Starzz were an American basketball franchise of the Women's National Basketball Association based in Salt Lake City , Utah . The team took part in the game operations from 1997 to 2002 before relocating to San Antonio.

history

The team was founded in 1996 and started playing at the beginning of the 1997 season . The Starrz started poorly, but were able to increase the number of wins in each season and reach the playoffs at least twice. After the 2002 season , the WNBA gave its ownership rights to all WNBA franchises, while the league initially offered the rights to the franchises to all local NBA teams. After the owners of Utah Jazz were unwilling to take over the Utah Starzz, the franchise was bought on December 5, 2002 by Spurs Sports & Entertainment . Shortly after the acquisition, the team was relocated to San Antonio , Texas , with the name changed from Starzz to Silver Stars . The team name is now Stars .

The Starzz played their home games in the Delta Center . The team colors were green, purple, white, black, copper red and light blue. During its existence, the team qualified twice for the playoffs. The win of a WNBA championship was missing.
