The Moda Center is a multi-purpose arena in the US city of Portland in the state of Oregon . It mainly serves as the venue for the Portland Trail Blazers ( NBA ), the Portland Winterhawks ( WHL ) and the Portland Thunder ( AFL ), but there are also numerous other events. Until August 2013, the venue was called Rose Garden or Rose Garden Arena .
history
The Arena was officially opened on 12 October 1995 and was Rose Garden called to both Portland's reputation as a city of roses reflect, as well as to related to such important arenas in the history of basketball , such as the Madison Square Garden or the Boston Garden produce, . The arena was built in close proximity to the Veterans Memorial Coliseum , where the Trail Blazers played their home games from 1970 to 1995.
Until August 2013, the hall was one of the few arenas in the NBA that had not sold the naming rights . Since mid-August 2013, the Rose Garden has borne the name of the Portland-based health insurance company Moda Health . This is the official name of Moda Center . A ten-year contract was agreed.
The arena has a total of 15,540 permanent seats (including boxes) which, depending on the configuration, can be expanded to a maximum of 20,630 seats by adding temporary seats and standing room.
Furthermore, the Moda Center has excellent acoustics , which makes it a popular location for concerts and similar events.
