Temeka Rochelle Johnson (born September 6, 1982 in New Orleans , Louisiana , United States ) is a professional basketball player . She currently plays for Maccabi Bnot in Israel and in the Eurocup Women . Most recently she played in the 2015 season for the Los Angeles Sparks in the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) and in the 2016/17 season for the Israeli club of Maccabi Bnot.
Career
college
Temeka Johnson played from 2002 to 2005 for the Lady Tigers, the women's basketball team at Louisiana State University . At the side of Seimone Augustus , she reached the Final Four of the NCAA Women's Division I Basketball Championship Tournament with the Lady Tigers in 2004 and 2005 .
WNBA
Temeka Johnson was selected sixth in the 2005 WNBA Draft by the Washington Mystics . Her first WNBA season was not a good star, as she was criticized by many experts for being too small for this strong league with a height of 160 cm. Johnson belied critics by being named Rookie of the Year at the end of the 2005 season . Furthermore, she achieved the second most in the entire league with 177 assists. After a good first season for the Mystics, she was transferred to the Los Angeles Sparks . While she got a playing time of 28.6 minutes per game in Washington, she got only 25.3 minutes per game in Los Angeles. Even so, she scored 161 assists in the 2006 season , which meant an assist average of 5.0 assists per game. As a result of the reduced playing time, their average points dropped from 9.3 points to 8.0 points per game. In the 2007 season she could only play eleven games for the Sparks, and she was always in the starting lineup. Their playing time dropped to just 18.7 minutes per game, which also had an impact on their remaining values. Johnson only scored 2.7 assists and 6.4 points per game this season. In her third season in Los Angeles, she was back in 23 games, but only eight times in the starting lineup of the Sparks. Before the 2009 season, she moved to the Phoenix Mercury team . She was also active there for three seasons. In 2009 she won the WNBA championship with the team. In Phoenix, Temeka Johnson was able to increase her statistical values significantly and was one of the pillars of the team. She played the 2012 season for the Tulsa Shock team . There, too, she was one of the main players in the team and achieved her best average of the season in the WNBA with 12.2 points. She then played two seasons for the Seattle Storm . There, too, she was a regular part of the team's starting line-up. In the 2014 season , however, their operating time and thus also their other statistical values decreased. Her last season in the WNBA for the time being, Temeka Johnson played with the Los Angeles Sparks team in 2015 , where she did not get beyond the role of supplementary player.
After the 2015 season , Johnson stopped playing in the WNBA. Up to this point, she played in 11 WNBA seasons in the regular season 327 games, she was 255 May in the starting lineup and scored 2620 points, 889 rebounds and 1382 assists. In 36 playoff games (27 of them in the starting line-up) she scored 264 points, 78 rebounds and 148 assists.
Europe
During the WNBA season break, Temeka Johnson plays like many WNBA players in Europe. She was on the field for teams from Poland, Israel, France, Russia and Turkey. Most recently she played for the Israeli team of Maccabi Bnot in the 2016/17 season .
National team
Although Johnson played successfully with the United States junior national team, she did not appear in any major tournament for the United States women's national basketball team. With the US team she won the 2003 Women's Basketball World Championships .
