Chamique Shaunta Holdsclaw (born August 9, 1977 in Queensbridge , New York , New York ) is an American basketball player .

Chamique Holdsclaw was on the US team that won gold at the 2000 Olympics .

The 1.88 m tall and 78 kg player was drafted as the first player in 1999 and played from 1999 to 2004 for the Washington Mystics and from 2005 to 2007 for the Los Angeles Sparks . After her career ended, she returned to the WNBA for two seasons with the Atlanta Dream and the San Antonio Silverstars .

She was honored for her achievements in the WNBA 2006 in the election of the WNBA All-Decade Team . Although she was not one of the ten players directly elected to the team, she was honored with the addition of an “Honorable Mention” along with four other players. She also received the WNBA Rookie of the Year Award in 1999.

For several years she was also active for clubs in Europe.
