The NFL 1934 season was the 15th season of the American Football League National Football League (NFL). The champions of the league were the New York Giants .
After the Cincinnati Reds had lost their first eight games and still not paid the league fees, they were replaced in the championship by the St. Louis Gunners . The Portsmouth Spartans were renamed the Detroit Lions.
It was agreed that the championship game would be played by the winners of the Eastern Division in the even years and by the winners of the Western Division in the odd years.
The Ed Thorp Memorial Trophy , which was awarded until 1967, was donated as a trophy for the championship title .
