James Chadwick "Chad" Pennington (* 26. June 1976 in Knoxville , Tennessee ) is a former American American football poker players at the position of quarterback . He played with the New York Jets and the Miami Dolphins in the National Football League (NFL).

Player career

college

Pennington spent his college days at Marshall University where he played college football with Randy Moss and set several school records. In the 1999 Heisman Trophy election, he was fifth.

New York Jets

Pennington was selected in 2000 in the 1st round of the NFL Draft by the New York Jets , in which he initially filled the reserve role behind Vinny Testaverde . During the 2002 season he was given the role of starting quarterback , whereupon he was able to lead the badly started jets into the divisional play-offs . After a 2003 season marked by hand injuries, Pennington signed a contract extension for seven years in 2004. In the following season, Pennington led the team again in the Divisional Play-offs despite a shoulder injury . After the end of the 2004 season , he underwent an operation on his right shoulder, the after-effects of which affected him and made a second operation necessary in October 2005.

At the beginning of the 2006 season, the recovered Pennington built on earlier performances and was able to lead the Jets again into the wild card play-offs . For this he received the NFL's Comeback Player of the Year award . In 2007 Chad Pennington lost his place to Kellen Clemens after poor performance . Before the start of the 2008 season , Pennington was fired as the New York Jets had signed Brett Favre as their new quarterback.

Miami Dolphins

Shortly thereafter, he signed a two-year contract with the Miami Dolphins . He was instrumental in ensuring that the Dolphins recorded a positive upward trend after years of crisis. At the beginning of the 2009 season he injured himself again on the shoulder of his throwing arm and fell out for 13 matches during the rest of the season. He was replaced by Chad Henne . For the 2010 season Pennington closed a one-year contract as a substitute player with the Miami Dolphins.
