Christian Andrew Ponder (* 25. February 1988 in Dallas , Texas ) is a former American American football poker players at the position of quarterback .

Career

Ponder played college football for Florida State University and was named Most Valuable Player (MVP) in the Senior Bowl . The Minnesota Vikings chose him in the first round of the NFL draft, as the successor to Brett Favre out. Since the Vikings with Ponder and Joe Webb, drafted a year earlier, had too little experience in this position, Donovan McNabb was also committed.

With McNabb as starting quarterback , the Vikings began the season, but this was dismissed after poor performance. Ponder and Webb were then used alternately. Ponder had 1,853 yards and 13 touchdowns with as many interceptions .

For the 2012 season , Ponder was set as the starting quarterback. He threw 300 successful passes for 2,935 yards and 18 touchdowns with twelve interceptions. He and his team made it into the play-offs . Before the game against the Green Bay Packers, however, Christian Ponder injured himself during training, which meant he was out of the game. The Vikings lost the game 10:24.

In his third season, Ponder was again set as a starting quarterback. However, he lost his job as a starter in the fourth week due to an injury. In his place was the newly signed Matt Cassel . In the further course of the season Ponder came to four missions before he was finally replaced by Cassel in the 13th week. He ended the season with two wins, six losses and one draw.

When the Vikings selected Teddy Bridgewater in the 2014 NFL Draft , Ponder was only number three quarterback. After Matt Cassel injured himself and was out for the rest of the season and Bridgewater also injured, Ponder made his last game for the Vikings on the fifth day of the 2014 season . He started the game against the Green Bay Packers , which they lost at 10:42. In that game he also threw his final touchdown for the Vikings. For the remainder of the season, Ponder remained a substitute quarterback behind Bridgewater.

After his contract expired at the end of the season, the Oakland Raiders signed him . Before the start of the regular season , Ponder was released by the Raiders, who instead went into the season with Matt McGloin as a backup for Derek Carr .

In November, the Denver Broncos signed Ponder as an experienced player for their team after an injury to Peyton Manning . After only two weeks he was also released by the Broncos, who from now on bridged the time until Manning's return with the inexperienced Brock Osweiler and Trevor Siemian .

Before the 2016 season , the San Francisco 49ers signed Christian Ponder as third quarterback after Thad Lewis was injured for the remainder of the season and placed on the injured reserve list .
