Alberto Celestrín
Alberto Celestrín Carmona (born March 11, 1983 in Havana ) is a German Taekwondo athlete of Cuban origin. He won the Austrian Open in 2012 and led the European rankings in 2007, 2008 and 2009.
Career
youth
Celestrín started Taekwondo at the age of five with his first trainer Eduardo Frómeta, who also discovered him. In 1995 the EIDE sports school in Havana recognized the youngster's talent and accepted him. Alberto Celestrín trained there for three years until he moved to ESPA Provincial at the age of 15 under the direction of Alain Álvarez. At this sports school he learned not only Taekwondo but also boxing and took part in first league fights. He also trained there with the youth national team under coach Ignacio Gato and Nelson Saenz Miller.
Professional career
In 2001, 18-year-old Celestrín became part of the Cuban national team in Taekwondo, in which he was trained by Pedro Lay Blanco. There he also succeeded in entering the Olympic squad. However, he fell out with the association in 2006, which is why he moved to Germany to continue his career here.
From the Caribbean, Celestrín then went to Friedrichshafen , where he trained with the Taekwondo BSV under the then national trainer Markus Kohlöffel . From 2007 to 2009 he led the European rankings. After receiving German citizenship in 2011, he has been training with the German national team since then, where he is also nominated for the Olympic squad. In 2012 he missed participation in the London Olympics . Alberto Celestrín is currently a member of the German Taekwondo Union (DTU) and trains at TCI Ingelheim. His current club coach is former national coach Waldemar Helm, while Celestrín is trained in the national team by Aziz Acharki and in the military team by Georg Streif .

Alberto Celestrín has been a sports soldier in the German Bundeswehr since 2011.
He has a degree in sports science and psychology.
