Donovan McNabb (* 25. November 1976 in Chicago , Illinois ) is a former American American football poker players at the position of quarterback . He played in the National Football League (NFL) for thirteen years , eleven of them for the Philadelphia Eagles .

Career

In his college days he played college football at Syracuse University , where he also made a name for himself as a basketball player . In 1999 he was selected by the Philadelphia Eagles as the second player in the first round of the NFL Draft after Tim Couch and became one of the most important players on his team. By 2004 he was elected to the Pro Bowl five times in a row . In the same season he led his team in the Super Bowl XXXIX in which the Eagles were defeated by the New England Patriots with 21:24.

After two bad games at the end of the 2009 season, which had cost the Eagles the chance to participate in the Super Bowl again, McNabb was swapped for the Washington Redskins in 2010 . For McNabb, the Eagles received a second-round pick (37th player in the draft) in the 2010 NFL Draft and a third or fourth-round pick in the 2011 NFL Draft. At the Redskins, he achieved only moderate success, was even partly due to the Bench set.

The Minnesota Vikings signed McNabb in July 2011. There he should take over the role of starting quarterback after the end of Brett Favre's career . On December 1, 2011, he was released with immediate effect. Previously, he was replaced because of poor performance as a substitute and by the rookie quarterback Christian Ponder .

He was considered a "model athlete" of the NFL and was also a popular advertising medium (for example for Reebok, EA Sports, Pepsi, Hershey's, Campbell's Soup, etc.). McNabb is the founder of the Donovan McNabb Foundation, which deals with diabetes . He founded this in honor of some family members who suffer from this disease.

McNabb developed his own clothing line in collaboration with Reebok . It bears the name "Super5" based on his jersey number 5.

His jersey number has not been awarded by the Philadelphia Eagles since September 19, 2013.
