The University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) in Lincoln in the US state of Nebraska , founded in 1869 , is the largest of the three locations of the state University of Nebraska , along with Omaha and Kearney .

With around 22,000 students , it is the largest university in the state of Nebraska , and offers a wide range of subjects. Until 2011 she was a member of the Association of American Universities , an association of leading research-intensive North American universities that has existed since 1900.

The Nebraska Cornhuskers won the National Championship in college football five times . The Cornhuskers , whose mascot is a man in red dungarees and a capital "N", form one of the greatest common points of identity for the Nebraskians (everything is available from the red garden gnome to car flags and the obligatory T-shirts). The former coach of the Cornhuskers, Tom Osborne , sits today as a representative of the 3rd Congressional District in the US House of Representatives .
