The Pinnacle Bank Arena is a multi-purpose arena in the US city of Lincoln in the state of Nebraska . The arena, built on the site of an old rail yard in the West Haymarket neighborhood, is owned by the City of Lincoln. The main sporting users are the NCAA men's and women's college basketball teams ( Big Ten Conference ) of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL), the Nebraska Cornhuskers .
history
The Pinnacle Bank Arena is the main component of the West Haymarket Redevelopment Project ( German West Haymarket renovation project ) for 344 million US dollars . The project includes a hotel with 200 rooms, 100 apartments, 100,000 sq ft (approximately 9290 m² ) of retail space and office space, also with an area 100,000 sq ft The earlier. Department store - and industrial area of West Haymarket was one of the oldest neighborhoods in Lincoln. In May 2010, a public vote was taken on the construction project. Construction work on the new arena began on September 7, 2011 under the project name West Haymarket Arena. One month later, on December 6th, Lincoln Mayor Chris Beutler announced that Pinnacle Bank had become the arena's name sponsor . The topping-out ceremony was celebrated in December 2012 . After around two years of construction, a soft opening of the $ 179 million arena took place on August 16 and 17, 2013 . In a ceremony, around 775 graduations were awarded to UNL graduates. The arena was officially opened with an open house and the symbolic cutting of the ribbon on August 29th. The first game of the Nebraska Cornhuskers was played in November of that year. Every year around 140 events take place in the Pinnacle Bank Arena, which attract around 700,000 visitors. 15,500 seats are available for basketball games and concerts with a final stage. With a central stage in the middle of the interior, there are another 400 more seats. The multi-purpose hall with an area of 470,000 sq ft (around 43,664 m²) is equipped with 36 suites , 20 boxes , two private lounges and 73 sales stands.
