Chris Beutler (born November 14, 1944 in Omaha , Nebraska ) is an American politician ( Democratic Party ). He was the 51st Mayor of Lincoln , Nebraska , from May 14, 2007 to May 20, 2019 .

He sat from 1978 to 1986 and again from 1990 as a representative of the 28th District of Central Lincoln as a Senator in the Nebraska Legislature . He was re-elected in 1982, 1994, 1998 and 2002. On May 1, 2007, Beutler prevailed with 51 percent of the vote in front of the Republican Ken Svoboda and thus succeeded the no longer candidate Coleen Seng . In 2011 he was re-elected as mayor when he won 64.68 percent of the vote against Republican Tammy Buffington. In 2015, Beutler was confirmed for a third term. Due to a limitation clause , he was no longer allowed to run for the 2019 mayoral election; on May 20, 2019, he was replaced by Leirion Gaylor Baird .
