Coleen Seng

Coleen Seng (born February 8, 1936 in Council Bluffs , Iowa ) is an American politician ( Democratic Party ). She was the 50th mayor of the City of Lincoln , Nebraska , between 2003 and 2007 .

Her husband Darrel died in 1993. They had three children with him.

Life

Seng grew up in Fremont, Nebraska . In 1954 she graduated from high school and studied at Nebraska Wesleyan University in Lincoln. In 1958 she finished her studies with a Bachelor of Arts in political science and sociology .

Political career

Seng prevailed in the 2003 mayoral election against Republican city ​​council member Glenn Friendt. Before that she was a member of the city council for 16 years. She replaced Don Wesely. In 2006, Coleen Seng waived possible re-election. She was succeeded again by a Democrat, State Senator Chris Beutler .

She became famous in 2004 when she asked Vice President Dick Cheney for a $ 32,000 security deposit allowance . This had carried out a fundraiser for the then Republican candidate and later Congressman Jeff Fortenberry .
