Logan Miles Woodside (born January 27, 1995 in Frankfort , Kentucky ) is an American American football player on the position of quarterback who plays for the Tennessee Titans in the National Football League (NFL). At the end of November 2018, the San Antonio Commanders from the Alliance of American Football (AAF) decided for him in the first league draft . Prior to his professional career, he was at the University of Toledo , where he set many passing records with the Toledo Rockets .

At Franclin County High School there was already an established quarterback, but Woodside was able to prevail as a starter within a short time despite less experience.

As a junior , he threw for 2,570 yards and nine touchdowns and ran an additional 417 yards and seven touchdowns. In his senior year of high school, he led his team to twelve wins from one loss and made it to the third round of the state play-offs. He led the most productive offense in Kentucky. In the composite rating, which takes all four of the popular recruitment ratings, Woodside was rated as a three-star player and seventy-best pro-style quarterback in the country for his year.

On June 22, 2012, Woodside announced that Troy University had offered him his first athletic scholarship. Two days later, he received offers from Western Kentucky University and Ohio University . player

In his first season he played four games, two of them from the start, all of which he was able to win. He was able to bring 21 of his 41 passes to the man for 240 yards. In the 2014 season, Woodside was named a starter from game three after Phillip Ely was injured. With the Rockets he got into the GoDaddy Bowl , which they also won. This season he was able to achieve 2,263 yards and a passer efficiency of 142.5, the fourth best in the MAC. His passes were caught 19 times for a touchdown and only eight times by the opponent. After Ely's recovery in the 2015 season, he was reappointed a starter and Woodside put in a Redshirt year. During this time he took a coach-like position, which he said had helped him a lot to improve.

In the fight for the starter job for the 2016 season, he was able to prevail against Michael Julian and Mitch Guadagni . In the first four games he always threw at least four touchdown passes. On September 30, 2016, Woodside was able to achieve 505 yards through passes in the 53:55 defeat against the BYU Cougars , breaking the previous school record of 461 yards set in 2003 by Bruce Gradkowski . On October 27, he threw in the eighth game of the season against the Ohio Bobcats the touchdown passes 29, 30 and 31 of the season, breaking the school record for touchdown passes in a season of 29, established by Gradkowski in the seasons 2003 and 2005. The 30th touchdown pass was doing a 98-yard pass to Jon'Vea Johnson , making the longest line of scrimmage play in the history of the Toledo Rockets. After the 11th game against the Ball State Cardinals , Woodside was able to show 3,653 yards through thrown passes in one season, breaking the record of 3,513 yards set in 2004 by Gradkowski. After the end of the regular season he had thrown for 3,882 yards, led the nation with 43 touchdown passes and was elected first-team All-MAC . In addition, with 135.2, he was able to show the highest passing efficiency for passes thrown in under 2.5 seconds in the nation.

In the ninth game of the 2017 season he was able to break the record, also held by Gradkowski, for the most passed yards in the history of the Toledo Rockets (9,225). At the end of the regular season he had thrown for a total of 3,451 yards and 23 touchdowns. Its now total of 10,083 yards was a new school record and was the first time in school history that the 10,000-yard mark was broken. He came back to the first team All-MAC. He was also voted MAC Offensive Player of the Year and received the Vern Smith Leadership Award (Most Valuable Player of the Conference). Woodside led the team to a 10-2 record, which earned the Toledo Rockets their first appearance in the MAC Football Championship since 2004. There he threw for 307 yards and four touchdowns, which made him the offensive player of the game and helped Toledo's thirteen-year course to finish without a conference title.

After his time in Toledo, he was nominated for the 2018 NFLPA Collegiate Bowl , where he played for the national team .

Professional career

In February 2018 it was announced that Woodside had been invited to the NFL Combine . In the Combine, Woodside jumped 31.5 "(80 cm) high and 103" (2.62 m) wide. In the 40 yard dash he ran a time of 4.79 seconds, the 20 yard shuttle he ran in 4.15 seconds and the 3 cone drill in 6.94 seconds. The 20-yard shuttle was the second best of all quarterbacks, the 3 Cone Drill the third best. He also took third place among the quarterbacks in the standing vault and fifth in the 40 yard dash.

In the 2018 NFL Draft , Woodside was selected by the Cincinnati Bengals in the seventh round as the 249th player . On May 11, 2018, he signed his first contract, which has a term of four years. As part of the final squad reduction to 53 players before the start of the regular season , Woodside was dismissed.

On September 3, 2018, the Tennessee Titans signed Woodside for their Practice Squad . He was released on September 25, 2018.

In late November 2018, Woodside was selected by the San Antonio Commanders of the Alliance of American Football (AAF) with the first pick in the third round of the first AAF QB Draft . After the eighth game day of the first season, the game was stopped due to financial issues. On April 8, 2019, the Tennessee Titans signed Woodside. As part of the final squad downsizing before the start of the regular season, Woodside was fired. However, he was then accepted into the Practice Squad. On September 12, 2019, he was placed on the Practice Squad / Injured List. After the Titans were eliminated in the AFC Championship Game , Woodside signed a new contract.

Play style

Woodside is known as a precise and intelligent passport thrower. He does not shy away from physical contact in situations in which he walks ( scramblet ). Matt Campbell , former head coach of the Rockets (2012-2015), certified Woodside as having above-average arm strength, solid athleticism and leadership skills. Woodside is also ascribed a high level of precision, a good overview of the game, quick decision-making ability and high throwing speed. However, his ability to dodge the pressure of the defense through his own runs is considered below average.

Personal

Jason Woodside, Logan's father, played in the safety position for Eastern Kentucky University from 1992 to 1995 .

On June 9, 2018, Woodside was stopped for speeding and arrested after testing positive alcohol. He was released from custody shortly afterwards.
