regulate

All quarterbacks who had signed a contract with the AAF were eligible. Some of these had been assigned to a regional AAF team after the last team in the National Football League (NFL) or Canadian Football League (CFL) they played for or their college . Players without such an assignment were free agents . In the draft, the teams had the option of either protecting a quarterback assigned to them ( Protect ) or choosing another one ( Pick ). The shooter was only possible with the first round election. If a team chose the option of not protecting a player, the team could only choose after all other teams had either protected a player or had spoken out against it.
