Lawrenceburg is a city with the status of City and at the same administrative center ( the county seat ) of the Anderson County in the US -amerikanischen State Kentucky with 11,042 inhabitants (2012).

geography

Lawrenceburg is about 15 kilometers south of Frankfort . The Kentucky River flows on the eastern edge of Lawrenceburg. The connecting road US Highway 125 runs through the place.

history

The first settler was Jacob Kaufman from Germany in the 1780s and the place was called Kaufman's Station . With the opening of a post office in 1827, the town was in honor of landowner William Lawrence in Lawrenceburg renamed. Due to the coal deposits in the area, the city experienced a strong economic boom. During the civil war the place was a center of military conflicts.

Today, as a county seat, Lawrenceburg is primarily active in administration and in medium-sized industrial and commercial operations. The state of Kentucky is the leading bourbon whiskey producer in the United States. Major distilleries with the brands Four Roses and Wild Turkey are located in Lawrenceburg . Also Seagram was there, as the Bourbon Benchmark distill.

In 2012 a population of 11042 people was determined, which means an increase of 22.5% compared to 2000. The median age of residents in 2012 was 35.2 years, well below the Kentucky median of 40.1 years. 14.8% of the current population are of Irish origin. Other immigrant groups during the beginnings of the place came 10.8% from Germany and 9.9% from England .
