Phillip Edward Ely (* 3. January 1993 in Tampa , Florida ) is an American American football trainer and former player. He played college football for the Alabama Crimson Tide and the Toledo Rockets . He is currently the quarterbacks trainer and passing game coordinator at Tiffin University .

Early years

Ely attended Plant High School in Tampa , Florida between 2007 and 2010 . In his sophomore year he led his team to a state championship. As a junior , he threw 20 touchdowns and 1,833 yards . In his senior year in high school , he completed 64.3% of his passes for 2nd yards and 27 touchdowns, and led his team to the finals of the state championship. He was considered the fifteen best quarterback of his year.

Career

college

Alabama

17 August 2010 it was announced that Ely in the 2011 season for the Alabama Crimson Tide of the University of Alabama would play. Experts were surprised by this decision, since Clemson University , the University of Mississippi , Louisiana State University or Wake Forest University were previously considered Ely's favorites, but he kept himself covered about his decision. In 2012 he played in six games, where he brought 3 of 4 passes for 42 yards and a touchdown to his teammates.

In both years he won the national championship with the Crimson Tides.

Toledo

For the 2013 season, Ely moved to the University of Toledo . Due to the change, he was not allowed to play this season. For the 2014 season he was named starting quarterback for the Toledo Rockets by head coach , Matt Campbell . In his Rockets debut against the New Hampshire Wildcats , he was able to throw four touchdowns and 24 of his 34 passes came. On the second day of the game against the Missouri Tigers he was able to complete half of his 34 passes for 204 yards of space before tearing a cruciate ligament towards the end of the third quarter, which ended the season for him. In the same year he did his Bachelor in Management . For the 2015 season Ely was fit again and was able to make 226 of 403 passes and pass 2965 yards and 23 touchdowns. After the Rockets missed the division championship despite a record of 10 wins and two losses, they took part in the Boca Raton Bowl , where Ely was selected as the offensive MVP . To do his MBA , Ely wanted to play another year of college football, but the NCAA could n't get him to play.

NFL

On April 14, 2016, Ely took part in a trial training session with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers . After he was not selected in the 2016 NFL Draft , the Buccaneers invited him to a rookie mini-camp .

Return to college

On August 5, 2016, the Iowa State Cyclones announced that they had hired Ely as their Defense Graduate Assistant . There he works under Cyclones head coach Matt Campbell , who was previously head coach Elys for the Rockets. The following year, Ely was the quarterbacks coach and passing game coordinator for the Tiffin Dragons at Tiffin University .
