NFL
2018
Nick Chubb was drafted 35th by the Cleveland Browns in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft . This made him the fourth running back to be drafted in 2018, only Saquon Barkley , Rashaad Penny and his college teammate Sony Michel were previously selected.
Chubb signed a four-year contract for 7,383,000 with the Browns dollars . He started his rookie season as the third running back for the Browns, behind Carlos Hyde and Duke Johnson . He made his debut in the first week of the 2018 season against the Pittsburgh Steelers , with 3 runs for 21 yards in this game. In the fourth week of his first season, playing against the Oakland Raiders , Chubb scored his first touchdown in the NFL, running more than 100 yards for the first time. Chubb was only allowed to run the ball three times in that game against the Raiders, but scored a 63-yard and a 41-yard touchdown for the Browns. After week 6 of the season, the Browns Carlos Hyde decided to trade with the Jacksonville Jaguars , Chubb was named the future starter of the franchise due to his performance. In week 10, when he beat the Atlanta Hawks , Chubb set a new personal record with 176 rushing yards. Also in this game he set a franchise record with a touchdown over 92 yards, a Cleveland Browns player had never run further in a single play. The previous record holder was Hall of Famer Bobby Mitchell with a run of 90 yards in 1959. Chubb played all 16 regular season games and came to a total of 996 yards and 10 touchdowns at the end of the season, eight of the ten touchdowns he had and two he caught more.
2019
Chubb went into his second professional season as a starter from the start. New to the team in the running back position was Kareem Hunt , who, however, missed the first 8 games of the 2019 season due to a suspension, so that Chubb hardly had to share a snap with a backup player in his position in the first half of the season . In the first half of the season, Chubb was able to draw attention to himself especially in week 5 with the victory over the Baltimore Ravens . With 165 yards of space gained through the run, he could not set his personal best from his rookie season in this statistical category, but he set a new individual record with 3 rushing touchdowns in one game. For this performance he was voted the best offensive player of the week in the AFC . He also managed an 88-yard touchdown in the game in question, not only holding the record for the longest run in the history of the Browns, but also the running back with the third-longest run in the history of the franchise.
In two more games of the first half of the season, Weeks 6 and 8, Chubb was able to run more than 100 yards for his Ohio franchise . Even with Hunt's return from Game 9 of the season, Chubb continued to be very productive. For example, he was able to gain more than 100 yards of space in four other games, so that he was ultimately able to achieve three-digit space gains for the Browns in 7 of the 16 games. Chubb finished his second professional season with 8 touchdowns and 1,494 yards of space. Only Derrick Henry was able to gain more space through the run with 1,540 yards in the 2019 season. Henry only overtook him in this statistical category in the very last week of the season with a game with more than 200 yards of space gain. With just 6 wins out of 10 defeats, Chubb clearly missed the playoffs with the Browns in his second NFL season . Nonetheless, Chubb was able to celebrate an appearance in the postseason, as he was elected to the Pro Bowl of the 2019 season for the first time in his career . In the fan voting, he received the most votes for an AFC running back.
Personal
Bradley Chubb , Nick Chubb's cousin, also plays American football in the NFL. He is under contract as an outside linebacker with the Denver Broncos and was also drafted in the 2018 NFL Draft , but already well ahead of Nick, in 5th place in the first round.
