Joshua Ballinger Lippincott "Josh" Rosen (* 10. February 1997 in Torrance , California ) is an American American football player at the position of quarterback . He played college football for the University of California, Los Angeles and was selected tenth in the 2018 NFL Draft by the Arizona Cardinals . He is currently under contract with the Miami Dolphins in the National Football League (NFL).

college

Rosen attended St. John Bosco High School in Bellflower , California . Before Rosen decided to play American football, he was also considered a great talent in tennis .

From 2015 to 2017, Rosen played football in college . He attended the University of California, Los Angeles , where he played for the UCLA Bruins in the NCAA Division I FBS.

In total, he came to 712 successful passes in 1,170 pass attempts and 9,340 yards and 59 thrown touchdowns in the four years . At college, he set a new record for most yards thrown in the 2017 season with 3,756 passing yards.

NFL

In the 2018 NFL Draft , Rosen was selected tenth as the fourth quarterback by the Arizona Cardinals . There he signed a four-year contract for approximately $ 17.5 million.

Rose went first as a backup behind Sam Bradford in the season 2018 . In week 4, Rosen became the new starting quarterback as Bradford was not convincing and the Cardinals had lost the first three games. In the previous game he had replaced Bradford in the closing stages and threw an interception . On his debut as a starter against the Seattle Seahawks , he threw his first touchdown pass in the NFL in the fourth quarter, with which the Cardinals were able to level. Nevertheless, the team lost to a field goal in the last second.

After the rest of the season was unsuccessful and Rosen caused up to five turnover in one game, the Cardinals dismissed their offensive coordinator Mike McCoy after week 7 . The Cardinals ended the season with a record of three wins and thirteen losses as the worst team in the NFL and thus had the right to select the first player in the 2019 NFL Draft . They decided on Heisman Trophy winner Kyler Murray , who should replace Rosen as quarterback. The Cardinals therefore gave Rosen against a second round pick to the Miami Dolphins , where Rosen competes with Ryan Fitzpatrick for the position as starting quarterback.

First, Fitzpatrick went into the season as the Dolphins' starting quarterback. After showing poor performance in the first two games, he was replaced by Rosen in week 3. When he threw only 85 yards and 2 interceptions in week 5 against the Redskins who were also still without a win in the first 3 quarters, he was replaced by Fitzpatrick in the fourth quarter, who promptly threw a touchdown pass and almost turned the game around. In the following weeks, Fitzpatrick took over the role of starting quarterback again.
