Dietmar Meisch (born February 10, 1959 in Weida ) is a former German athlete who specialized in 50 km walking and was able to win a GDR championship title. He took part in the Summer Olympics in 1980 and 1988 and started for TSC Berlin while he was active .

Career

At the GDR indoor championships in 1979 in Senftenberg , he secured the silver medal in the 20 km walk behind Ronald Weigel from ASK Vorwärts Potsdam . He was nominated by the National Olympic Committee of the GDR for the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow and started there in the 50 km walk. While his compatriot Hartwig Gauder became Olympic champion, Meisch and his compatriot Uwe Dünkel were disqualified.

At the GDR indoor championships in 1981 he was again able to win the silver medal in the 20 km walk, this time behind Ralph Meisel from ASK Vorwärts Potsdam . At the GDR championships in 1981 he won the bronze medal behind Uwe Dünkel and Hartwig Gauder. He was nominated by the DVfL for the first time in 1982 for the European Athletics Championships . At the European Championships in Athens in 1982 he was eliminated during the 50 km walk. After he was eliminated from the GDR championships in 1982 , he won the bronze medal again at the GDR championships in 1983 , this time behind Ronald Weigel and Hartwig Gauder.

Three years later at the GDR championships in 1986 he secured the bronze medal behind Hartwig Gauder and Ronald Weigel. He was also nominated by the DVfL for the 1986 European Championships , where he took sixth place in Hartwig Gauder's world championship. At the GDR championships in 1987 he celebrated his greatest success on the national stage. He won the gold medal over 50 km walking ahead of Bernd Gummelt and Peter Scholle .

He completed the entire set of medals at the GDR championships at the GDR championships in 1988 , when he won silver behind Ronald Weigel. He was nominated for the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul by the National Olympic Committee of the GDR and started there in the 50 km walk. While Ronald Weigel and Hartwig Gauder won silver and bronze respectively, Meisch finished the race in ninth place.
