List of German champions in the 4 x 400 meter relay
The 4 x 400 meter relay was first included in the men's program in 1927 in the German Athletics Championships . The competition was canceled in 1935, 1944 and 1945. During the division of Germany , from 1948 onwards, separate championships were held in the Federal Republic of Germany as well as in the GDR , in which the men's 4 x 400 meter relay - except in 1990 in the GDR - was a permanent part. For women, the competition entered the championship program much later. In the GDR this was the case from 1969, in the Federal Republic of Germany from 1975. Like the men's relay in 1990 in the GDR , unlike in the Federal Republic of Germany, the women's relay was no longer part of the championship program. In reunified Germany, the attractive competition was a constant feature of the subsequent joint championships from 1991.
Like the 4 x 100 meter relay, this relay over the long sprint route is usually held in the main program of the German championships. The long teams, on the other hand, are normally part of the outsourced disciplines.
