Johannes Trefz (born June 7, 1992 in Starnberg , Bavaria ) is a German athlete who mainly specializes in long sprints . He also runs seasons .

career path

Trefz is studying for a master's degree in biology at LMU Munich , where he is particularly interested in biomedicine .

Athletic career

At TSV Weilheim , Trefz was already in children's athletics at the age of six, then played handball because of his height , for example against his childhood friend Tobias Giehl in the neighboring club, until he devoted himself entirely to athletics, where he was initially active as a long jumper, but then he did turned to the long sprint at the age of 14 due to knee problems.

In 2011 Trefz took third place in the 4 x 400 meter relay at the U20 European Championships in Tallinn in 2011, together with Varg Königsmark , Lukas Schmitz and Lukas Hamich .

In 2014 Trefz became German U23 champion in the 400 meter run and with the 4 x 400 meter relay. With the team he became team European champion in Braunschweig as a team member, to which he contributed with a 2nd place with the 4 x 400 meter relay.

In 2015 Trefz came in at the European team championship in Cheboksary with the 4 x 400 meter relay on the 5th place and was there with the team vice European champion. At the German Championships in Nuremberg , he won the silver medal with Benedikt Wiesend, Kamghe Gaba and Markus Kiefl for the LG Stadtwerke München with the 4 x 400 meter relay.

In 2016 Trefz won the title at the German Championships in Kassel both over the stadium lap and, together with Benedikt Wiesend , Laurin Walter and Tobias Giehl, over the 4 x 400 meters.

In 2017 Trefz came 14th with the 4 x 400 meter relay at the IAAF World Relays in Nassau (Bahamas) . He was nominated by the DLV for the European Team Championship in Lille and was allowed to compete for the German team in the 400-meter run and in the 4 x 400 meter relay. In the final, Trefz reached seventh place in the 400 meter run and with the 4 x 400 meter relay he finished third together with Patrick Schneider , Torben Junker and Constantin Schmidt . Overall, the German team was able to win the European team championship. At the German Championships in Erfurt he defended his title over 400 meters with a personal best of 45.81 s.

In 2018 Trefz became German champion both over 400 meters and with the 4 x 400 meter relay. At the European Championships in Berlin he was eliminated from the stadium round in the run-up and took 8th place with the 4 x 400 meter relay.

As in previous years, an indoor season does not play a role for Trefz, not only because he cannot develop his performance in the narrow curves of the 200-meter lanes because of his size, but also because of the experience that a long-term training structure makes more sense Trefz gets motivation boosts from other disciplines such as the long jump and the 400 meter hurdles .

Trefz is part of the perspective squad of the German Athletics Association (DLV) and was previously in the B squad .

Club affiliations

Johannes Trefz started for TSV Graefelfing in 2019 . From 2014 he started for LG Stadtwerke München , parent club USC Munich , and previously worked for LG Würm Athletics and TSV Weilheim .
