Tobias Giehl (* 25. July 1991 in Munich ) is a German athlete who is on the hurdles specialized and long Sprint stagger running. Giehl studies environmental engineering at the Technical University of Munich .

Athletic career

Tobias Giehl was also very talented as a handball player, according to his long-time coach at his home club TSV Gilching .

In 2009 Hoffmann switched from the all-around to the long hurdles distance, became German U20 champion over 400 meter hurdles and the following year German U20 runner-up .

In 2011 he finished 4th at the German U23 championships in the older age group and became German runner-up among the active players.

In 2012 Hoffmann reached the semi-finals at the European Championships in Helsinki and was German university champion. He won the runner-up at the German Championships and the German U23 Championships .

Further runner -up titles and 3rd places over 400 meter hurdles followed at the German U23 championships in 2013 , the German championships in 2013 , the German championships in 2014 and with the 4 x 200 meter relay at the German indoor championships in 2015 .

In 2016 Giehl again set a personal best over the 400 meter hurdles and was nominated for the European Championships in Amsterdam , where he reached the semi-finals. He did not achieve the Olympic standard for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , but was nominated by the IAAF, subject to additional invitations, which, however, were not issued.

Giehl belongs to the B-team of the German Athletics Association (DLV) .

Tobias Giehl started working for LG Stadtwerke München on January 1, 2014, previously for LG Würm Athletik and is still a member of TSV Gilching-Argelsried .
