Johann August von Voigt

Johann August von Voigt (born May 17, 1677 in Zerbst ; † August 6, 1742 in Magdeburg ) was a royal Prussian major general, chief of infantry regiment No. 20 and governor of Beeskow , Storkow and Tapiau and bearer of the Pour le Mérite .

Life

His father was treasurer of the Prince of Anhalt-Zerbst († 1693), his mother was a von Grote from Hamburg.

He entered service in Brandenburg in 1691 and joined the 11th Cavalry Regiment (Margrave Albrecht). He stayed there for seven years, during which time he became a non-commissioned officer. When the Infantry Regiment No. 19 was set up in 1702 , he moved to the regiment as an ensign. After two years (1700) he became a lieutenant and then chief of staff, and in 1711 he received his own company. King Friedrich Wilhelm I is said to have elevated him to the nobility in 1714. In 1716 he became major, on July 8, 1724 lieutenant colonel and commander of the regiment. In 1735 he became a colonel and on August 20, 1738, he was given the governorship of Beeskow .

Under Frederick II he received the Pour le Mérite . In the First Silesian War he was also given the office of Tapiau on May 8, 1741 because of his special bravery . He was able to excel especially when taking Glogau .

On August 1, 1741, he took over Regiment No. 20 (Graevenitz). In 1742 he was promoted to major general. After his death in Magdeburg he was buried in the local garrison church.

He was with NN since 1711 . von Martini († 1732) married. She was the daughter of the Martini Royal Council from Moers . He and his wife had twelve children, of whom three sons and three daughters survived.
