Lara Hoffmann (born March 25, 1991 in Siegen , North Rhine-Westphalia ) is a German athlete who mainly specializes in long sprints .

career path

In 2007 Hoffmann graduated from the Erndtebrück secondary school with the qualification to attend the upper secondary school and was awarded for special academic achievements. Hoffmann is a student teacher at the German Sport University Cologne and has been working on her Bachelor thesis since the beginning of 2016.

Athletic career

From the age of six to eleven , Hoffmann did gymnastics until her sprint talent showed and she gradually switched to athletics in her home club TuS Hilchenbach . At first she denied Blockwett- and seven fights in the students area, specializing since 2007 in the short sprint.

In 2007, at the age of 15, Hoffmann was on the track for the first time at the German championships, at the German indoor championships , and took 4th place with the 4 x 200 meter relay . In the same year she reached the 3rd place at the European Youth Olympic Festival (EYOF) in Belgrade and was German U18 champion on the 200 meters.

In 2008 she defended this title and had other 200-meter successes. At the beginning of the year Hoffmann became the German U20 youth indoor champion and was able to record an international highlight in the summer with a move into the semi-finals at the U20 World Championships in Bydgoszcz (Poland) . With 23.92 s, she was, as in 2007 (24.15 s), the best B-youth athlete of the year outdoors. In the hall, too, she set up a German B youth indoor best performance on March 1st with 23.91 seconds in the indoor international competition for the U20 age group in Halle (Saale) .

In 2009 and 2010 it was suddenly quiet around Hoffmann. At the German Youth Championships in August 2010 she ran, now starting in the B-youth (U20), with the 4 x 100 meter relay of the LG Kindelsberg Kreuztal on the 7th place.

In 2011 and 2012 she was, now at the LT DSHS Cologne , with the 4 x 400 meter relay German U23 champion , as well as first German runner-up and later champion among the active players.

In 2013, Hoffmann took 3rd place in the 4 x 200 meter relay at the German Indoor Championships . In the further course of the year she showed her persistence on the 400-meter distance with fourth places in the German Indoor Championships , the German U23 Championships and the German Championships .

In 2014 she won two runner-up titles at the German Indoor Championships , over 400 meters in the individual and in the relay. In the open air it was 4th place in the individual and 3rd place in the relay at the German Championships . With a best time of 53.15 s on the 400 meters, Hoffmann made it into the DLV relay at the European team championship, with which she came in 4th place, and with the team was European team champion. A little later she took 6th place at the European Championships in Zurich with the 4 x 400 meter relay , but was only able to contest the prelims due to an injury. This was followed by a year and a half injury break with operations.

At the beginning of 2016, Hoffmann was able to look forward to a successful re-entry at the German Indoor Championships as 400-meter indoor champion, which she won with a 4th place in the German championships over the 400 meters and the championship with the 4 x 400 meter relay confirmed. At the end of June 2016 Hoffmann was nominated for the European Championships in Amsterdam , where she took 5th place with the 4 x 400 meter relay . At the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , she retired with the 4 x 400 meter relay in a personal best of 3: 26.02 min in the preliminary round.

In 2017 Hoffmann became German indoor champion over 400 meters in Leipzig with a personal best of 52.90 s and qualified for the European Indoor Championships in Belgrade .

In 2018 she came 4th at the German Championships with the 4 x 400 meter relay.
