Block competition
As block competition is in the Athletics a competition called, in which various disciplines are combined in a "block" and be seen as a unit, which is why it incorrectly referred to as a block more designated combat, more fighting but in the event order (VAO) of the German Athletics Association (DLV) are specifically defined.
organization
The block competitions are carried out according to the rules of all-around competitions. Individual disciplines rated for a block competition cannot be rated simultaneously for another block competition or another all-round competition and vice versa.
As a team in block competitions, five participants from a club / athletics community are rated, namely the best from all three blocks of an age group, regardless of which of the three blocks they took part in.
The block competitions can be composed differently depending on age and gender for pupils in age groups 12 to 15.
Regulations
As can be seen from the overview below, three of the five disciplines are the same in every block competition: a sprint , a hurdle sprint - both with age-specific route lengths and hurdles - and the long jump . In the two other disciplines, three different priorities are possible: The sprint / jump focus includes the high jump and, depending on the age group, the ball throw or javelin throw . When setting the focus on the run , it is also the ball throw as the technically simplest throwing discipline and another run over a longer distance of 800 or 2000 meters. The third focus on throw, on the other hand, complements the three basic disciplines with the shot put and discus throw .
As with all all-round competitions, every athlete has three attempts at the throws and the long jump.
In contrast to the heptathlon and decathlon as the all-round competitions in the higher age groups, the order of the disciplines is not prescribed, but can be freely chosen by the organizer. Since several different block competitions usually take place at the same time, particular attention is paid to the availability of the respective facilities (running track, jumping pit, throwing fields, etc.).
A team evaluation is possible. Five athletes from a club form a team whose points are added regardless of the selected block. It is crucial that all five belong to the same age group and the same gender.
