The 63rd German Indoor Athletics Championships were held on February 27 and 28, 2016 in the Leipzig Arena . This was the sixth time that Leipzig hosted the national indoor championships. The city of Leipzig supported the indoor championships with 50,000 euros.

Outsourced competitions

The German indoor all-around championships took place on January 30th and 31st in Hamburg . The heptathlon men won Kai Kazmirek of the LG Rhein-Wied with 6071 points. The pentathlon women won Celina Leffler ( SSC Koblenz-Karthause ) with 4347 points.

The German indoor walking championships were held on February 14th in parallel with the German indoor indoor championships in Erfurt . Christopher Linke from SC Potsdam won the men's 5000 m walk in 18: 44.32 minutes. Second and third place also went to the SC Potsdam walkers. Also the 3000 m walk of the women was won by a walker of the same club, namely by Teresa Zurek in 13: 46.95 min.

On February 21, the long relay races took place as part of the German Youth Indoor Championships in Dortmund . In the men's 3 x 1000 meter relay, the LG Braunschweig ( Viktor Kuk , Andreas Lange , Sören Ludolph ) won in 7: 17.95 minutes. TSV Bayer 04 Leverkusen ( Rebekka Ackers , Lena Klaassen , Carolin Walter ) won the women's title over the distance of 3 times 800 meters in 6: 22.59 minutes.
