Maren Orth, born Maren Kock (born June 22, 1990 in Lingen , Lower Saxony ), is a former German athlete who specialized in medium and long-distance runs and also competed in cross-country runs .

career path

After completing the 10th grade at secondary school, Kock switched to the Georgianum grammar school and completed training as a pharmaceutical technical assistant (PTA) . She works at a pharmacy and, thanks to the support of Sporthilfe Emsland, can work there with reduced hours in order to have enough time for competitive sport .

Athletic career

Maren Kock learned about the city run in Lingen at school at the age of eight and finished third, whereupon she became a member of VfL Lingen and from then on trained once or twice a week. At first Kock did general athletics until it turned out that she had a talent for running longer. At first she ran 800 meters , later 2000 meters , and from the age of 14 she only trained to run. In 2003 she took the top position over 800, 2000, 3000 and 5000 meters in the state best list of Lower Saxony.

In 2005, Kock started at the U18 World Championships in Marrakech , finished 7th there over 3000 meters and led the German best lists over 2000 meters and in road running . In 2006 two German championship titles were added. Then Kock had to take a two-year injury break and was able to take part in the U20 European Championships in Novi Sad in 2009 , where she came in 10th place over 3000 meters. In 2010, 2011 and 2012 Kock won all female junior titles over 5000 meters and had his first successes in cross runs.

Kock won her first championship title in the adult class in 2011 over 3000 meters indoors. She also won other titles over longer distances. In 2012 she won the U23 title at the German Championships in the 10,000 meter run , a distance that she also contested in the following years.

2012 was a particularly successful year for her, with championship and runner-up titles and top places in indoor and outdoor championships over medium and long distances.

In 2015, Kock became German champion over 1500 meters both indoors and outdoors and came in second place in her individual over 3000 meters and with the team at the European team championships.

In 2016 she was able to defend her indoor title and was runner-up in the open air in the 1500 meters. At the European Championships in Amsterdam she finished sixth over this distance, which was synonymous with the best European Championship result of her career.

On December 21, 2017 Orth announced the end of her sporting career.
