Florian Orth (born July 24, 1989 in Schwalmstadt ) is a German athlete who has won multiple German championships in the 1,500-meter run , with the 3-by-1,000-meter relay and in cross-country skiing .

Life

Orth finished 13th in the junior race of the 2007 European Cross Country Championships in Toro and ninth place at the 2008 European Cross Country Championships in Brussels. At the Junior World Championships in Athletics in 2008 in Bydgoszcz, he was eliminated in the 1,500-meter run in the preliminary round. Over the same distance, he became German Junior Champion in 2010. At the 2010 European Cross Country Championships in Albufeira, he finished tenth in the U23 age group.

In 2011 Orth surprisingly beat favorites Carsten Schlangen and Christoph Lohse over 1500 meters at the German Indoor Championships in Leipzig . He qualified for the European Athletics Indoor Championships in Paris . In his first participation in international championships in the adult area, however, he could not qualify for the final.

At the German Athletics Championships 2012 in Bochum - Wattenscheid , he won the championship title with 3: 43.71 minutes ahead of Carsten Schlangen . At the European Athletics Championships in Helsinki , he reached eleventh place after a fall.

Orth secured the championship title at the German Indoor Athletics Championships 2013 in Dortmund after a strong final spurt in the Helmut-Körnig-Halle. Orth relegated Homiyu Tesfaye , who started for LG Eintracht Frankfurt, to second place with 3: 41.00 min . A week later he missed the finals at the European Indoor Championships in Gothenburg by two tenths of a second. Another week later he became German cross-country champion in the middle distance (4.3 km) in Dornstetten.

The year 2014 began for Orth with second place over 1500 meters at the German Indoor Athletics Championships in Leipzig. Two weeks later he defended the title of German cross-country champion in the middle distance in Löningen. At the German Championships in Ulm , he came fourth in the 1500 meter run. Over the same distance, he finished tenth at the European Championships in Zurich .

The 1.81 m tall and 64 kg heavy Florian Orth started for ESV Jahn Treysa and since 2010 for LG Telis Finanz Regensburg and is trained by Klaus Bornmann. He works part-time as a dentist in his parents' practice in Schwalmstadt. He has been married to the medium and long-distance runner Maren Orth (née Kock) since March 2017 .

Orth made his half marathon debut in December 2019 and won the Nikolauslauf Tübingen .
