The Nikolauslauf Tübingen ( official name since 2018: itdesign-Nikolauslauf Tübingen , before that LBS-Nikolauslauf Tübingen ) has been a half marathon in Tübingen since 1976 . It is organized and held annually on Sundays before or after St. Nicholas' Day by Post-SV Tübingen . It is the largest Nikolauslauf and the tenth largest half marathon in Germany, which is held as a single event.

history

On December 5, 1976, 24 male runners started the 1st Nikolauslauf Tübingen - the first half marathon in the history of Tübingen running events - at that time still from Sand / Falkenweg on the 21-kilometer route across the Schönbuch Nature Park. So far, the event had to be canceled once - in 1980 - due to a sudden onset of winter.

At the 25th edition of the Nikolauslauf in December 2000, the number of finishers reached the 1,000-meter mark for the first time. But in the same year the run threatened to end. Despite the high level of satisfaction among the runners, the organizing committee wanted to stop organizing the run. At a meeting in May 2001 this was prevented, but it was decided to move to a new line. Gerold Knisel and Ingo Becker accepted the task of organization.

The Nikolauslauf reached a high point in 2005 - in addition to a new participant record with 1889 finishers, Dieter Baumann ran a new course record in 1:07:15 hours, which is still unmatched today. Stephanie Beckmann (née Maier) ran the course record for women in 2002 with a time of 1:21:21 h, which was valid until 2016; Sabrina Mockenhaupt set a new course record for women in 2016 with 1:20:01 h, until this one in 2019 the current course record holder Anaïs Sabrié was surpassed in 1:17:25 h.

Every Sunday in November, a test run for the Santa Claus run is organized. On this, the runners can test the run on the original route. A valuation does not take place here, however, the focus is on fun. The test run starts at the Holderfeld sports area of the SSC Tübingen at the end of Waldhäuser Strasse, and there is food at the finish. Over the past few years, around 800 runners have usually started trial runs at the Nikolauslauf. Around 30 train runners from the Post-SV Tübingen and LAV Stadtwerke Tübingen lead groups of runners during the test run, each with different target times. This should give inexperienced runners an orientation in terms of pace.

In 2015, a preparation program for the Nikolauslauf was offered for the first time. From the end of September until the event in early December, under the guidance of experienced trainers, runners can train every Saturday afternoon at the Post-SV running meeting for the half marathon on the original route in Schönbuch. In addition to the preparation program on Saturday, an evening appointment has been offered since 2016 in cooperation with the sports shop Intersport Räpple .

The Nikolauslauf Tübingen is organized by over 200 volunteers from various Tübingen associations. Gerold Knisel is in charge of the project, and the organizer is Post-SV Tübingen.

route

The start and finish have been on Waldhäuser Strasse since 2002 (previously at the Falkenweg / Sandweg intersection) in the Tübingen district of Waldhäuser Ost . The route itself leads through the Schönbuch Nature Park on one small and one large loop . From the starting level at 480  m , it first descends to 430  m and then a steep ascent at the Heuberger Tor up to the highest point at 500  m (Hornkopf), which is reached shortly before km 5. It then goes undulating past the start and finish area into the second round and down to the lowest point at 410  m , which you reach shortly before km 11. After another two kilometers, you turn on the first lap and you have to try again up to km 17 to the highest point of the route. A total of 319 meters of altitude has to be mastered.

There is refreshment at kilometers 5, 11, 17 and at the finish.
