Monika Zapalska (born May 24, 1994 in Danzig ) is a German athlete who specializes in the 100-meter hurdles .

Career

Monika Zapalska was born in Poland and came to Germany with her parents when she was around 11 years old. A year later she started athletics training at TuS 08 Lintorf, where she trained until the end of 2012. After a two-year guest appearance at ART Düsseldorf , she started working for TV Wattenscheid 01 in 2015 .

At the German Youth Championships , Zapalska often excelled with good placements. In 2010 she won the 100 meter hurdles of the female youth U18 and was runner-up three times in her respective age group from 2011 to 2013, namely over the 100 meter hurdles of the U18 in 2011 and the U20 in 2013 and over the 200 meters of the U20 in 2012. A similar success her in the hall , in 2012 she was U20 vice indoor champion in the 200 meters, in 2013 she was vice indoor champion in the 60 meter hurdles in the same age group . In 2013, 2015 and 2016 she won silver again at the German U23 championships in the 100 meter hurdles .

Zapalska took part in the 2013 Junior European Athletics Championships in the Italian municipality of Rieti and started there over the 100 meter hurdles . In the final, she took seventh place. At the German Athletics Championships in 2014 , she finished eighth in the final in Ulm .

In 2015, Zapalska took seventh place over the 60 meter hurdles at the German Indoor Championships in Karlsruhe . With her club relay she was able to secure the silver medal in the 4 x 200 meter relay race . In July, the hurdler took part in the U23 European Championships in Tallinn , Estonia . There she reached the semi-finals, but retired from this as fifth of her run. Two weeks later she finished fifth at the German Championships in Nuremberg .

2016 missed Zapalska at the German Indoor Championships in the Arena Leipzig in fourth a DM Hall medal in the 60 meters hurdles just a hundredth of a second, but could with Esther Cremer , Pamela Dutkiewicz and Christina Haack in the 4 x 200-meter relay to win German indoor championship title. In the 2016 and 2017 open-air seasons, she missed a DM medal in the 100-meter hurdles. In both events, Zapalska was able to secure a medal with the 4 x 100 meter relay , silver in 2016 and bronze in 2017.

In 2018, Zapalska missed a medal in fourth at the German Indoor Championships over the 60 meter hurdles, but was able to win the 4 x 200 meter relay together with Pamela Dutkiewicz , Keshia Kwadwo and Maike Schachtschneider .

Club affiliations

Zapalska has been working for TV Wattenscheid 01 since 2015 and is trained by Slawomir Filipowski . Before that she was at ART Düsseldorf .
