Erik Balnuweit (born September 21, 1988 in Gera ) is a German athlete who specializes in hurdles .

career path

Balnuweit is a sports soldier in the Bundeswehr sports promotion group in Frankenberg, Saxony .

Athletic career

At the German Athletics Championships in the open air, Balnuweit was runner -up in 2011 and 2018 and third in the 110 meter hurdles in 2012, 2013, 2015 and 2017 . He was significantly more successful in the indoor hurdle sprint: In 2009 and from 2013 to 2018 Balnuweit was German indoor champion over 60 meter hurdles, in 2008 and 2010 he took second place.

He was also successful in the sprint relays over 4 × 100 meters : in 2013 he won the German championship with the LAZ Leipzig relay , in 2015 he won the runner- up with the SC DHfK Leipzig team, and in 2018 he took third place with the TV Wattenscheid 01 .

Internationally, Balnuweit was fifth at the U20 European Championships in 2007. At the European Indoor Championships in 2009 , the World Championships in 2011 and the Olympic Games in London in 2012 , he played in the German national team, but retired early. At the European Indoor Championships 2013 in Gothenburg he reached fifth place, at the 2015 European Indoor Championships in Prague he was fourth. In 2017, Balnuweit qualified for the European Indoor Championships in Belgrade , where he narrowly missed the final and finished in 9th place. In Lille , northern France , he was European team champion , in the 110-meter hurdles he finished 6th.

Club affiliations

Balnuweit has been working for TV Wattenscheid 01 since 2017 , after having previously worked for SC DHfK Leipzig . In 2007 Balnuweit switched from TuS Jena to LAZ Leipzig , where he trained in a training group with Alexander John , Willi Mathiszik and Cindy Roleder under national coach Cheick-Idriss Gonschinska and then in the same position with national sprint trainer Ronald Stein. He has been training with Falk Balzer since the beginning of October 2018 .

Best times

The 1.89 m tall athlete set his best times over 110 m hurdles of 13.32 s (+2.1 m / s) on May 11, 2013 in Clermont (USA) and of 13.44 s (+1.7 m / s) on June 30, 2013 in Mannheim and over 60 meter hurdles in the hall from 7.54 s on March 9, 2014 in Sopot .
