Alexander John

Alexander John (born May 3, 1986 in Zeulenroda , Gera district , GDR ) is a former German athlete who specialized in hurdles .

Career

In 2010 he was German champion over 60 meter hurdles in the hall, in 2012 he won his first German championship title outdoors.

John had his first international successes in the youth field when he finished third at the U18 World Championships in 2003. In 2005 he finished third at the Junior European Championships. While he was eliminated early at the World Championships in 2009 and 2011 , he reached eighth place at the European Championships in 2010 and fourth place in 2012 . At the 2012 Olympic Games in London and the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio, he was eliminated in the preliminary stages.

In 2018 John ended his sporting career after the European Championships and then became active as a trainer for the German Athletics Association (DLV).

The 1.85 m tall hurdler set his best time of 13.35 s on June 13, 2009 in Mannheim and his indoor best time over 60 m hurdles of 7.65 s on February 28, 2010 in Karlsruhe.

Club membership

John began athletics at TSV Zeulenroda and rose to the top German class in the 110-meter hurdles at TuS Jena . In 2007 he moved to the LAZ Leipzig , where the sports soldier trained under Cheick-Idriss Gonschinska . He is currently training under Ronald Stein.

Others

John is a sports soldier in the Bundeswehr sports promotion group in Frankenberg, Saxony .
