TuS Jena

The TuS Jena was a sports club based in the Thuringian city of Jena . It had about 2,200 members and was divided into seven departments.

history

The club emerged from the SC Motor Jena with the end of the GDR's sports club system . The 1988 Olympic champion Petra Felke and the 1992 Olympic champion Heike Drechsler started at SC Motor and after the reunification for TuS. On November 25, 2011, the association filed for bankruptcy.

basketball

The basketball department of TuS Jena was established in 1993. From 2000 to 2006 they played in the 2nd basketball league . In 2005, the first men's team to appear as Science City Jena since being promoted to the basketball league in 2007 was spun off into Baskets Jena GmbH. The women competed under the name TuS Jena Burgaupark Ladybaskets from 2008 to 2011 in the 2nd women's basketball league . The youth teams competed in the youth basketball league under the name FUNKWERK Junior Baskets Jena and in the youth basketball league as PlanOrg Junior Baskets Jena . After the insolvency of the association, Science City Jena e. V., who from now on takes care of the youth work and popular sport.

athletics

The athletics department existed since 1990 and had around 270 members. Initially, Petra Meier-Felke were the figureheads of the department until she retired in 1992 and Heike Drechsler until she changed clubs after the 1994 season. Then the world-class athletes Falk Balzer and Anja Rücker started for TuS Jena throughout their careers . The club's last figureheads were the long jumper Sophie Krauel , the triple jumper Katja Demut and the young sprinters Robert Hering and Roy Schmidt. After the bankruptcy, the athletes founded the LC Jena in 2011 .

Wrestling

TuS Jena has competed in the 1st Bundesliga for several seasons in the past. In 2005, Jena was awarded the contract by the DRB as a federal performance center for young people up to the age of 20. In 2010 the wrestlers left the club and founded their own club, KSC Motor Jena.

Other departments

TuS Jena also had departments in judo , gymnastics , disabled sports and fitness . After the bankruptcy in 2011, the judoka founded JC Jena and the gymnasts founded TSG Jena.
