The Athletics Club Jena e. V. or LC Jena for short is an athletics club in the Thuringian city ​​of Jena , which was founded as an independent athletics club on November 14, 2011 after the multi-disciplinary club TuS Jena went bankrupt . It currently has almost 300 members (as of July 2, 2014). The club colors are red and white.

History of Jena athletics

As early as 1907, Jena gained increasing national importance in athletics. In the years that followed, competitions of various levels were held in the city, including the GDR athletics championships in 1955 and the Olympic eliminations in 1964. SC Motor Jena existed from 1954 to 1990 . Prominent Jena athletes from this time include the Olympic champions Renate Stecher ( 100 m ), Ruth Fuchs ( javelin throw ), Wolfgang Nordwig ( pole vault ), Marlies Göhr ( 4 × 100 m ), Bärbel Wöckel (4 × 100 m and 200 m ) , Heike Drechsler ( long jump ), Ingrid Auerswald (4 × 100 m) and Petra Felke (javelin throw). TuS Jena , which was founded on December 3, 1990 after the fall of the Wall , filed for bankruptcy in 2011 and was finally replaced by LC Jena, which was founded on November 14, 2011.

Even in its early years, the LC Jena can point to national and international successes. Bernhard Seifert was fourth in the javelin throw at the U20 World Championships 2012 in Barcelona , Thomas Röhler achieved seventh place in the same discipline at the U23 European Championships 2011 in Tallinn . Katja humility is WM-Sixteenth of 2009 and nine-time German champion in the triple jump and holds in this discipline and the German record outdoor and indoor. In 2013 Bernhard Seifert and Thomas Röhler were able to secure second and third place at the U23 European Championships in Tampere (FIN). The male U16 team from Jena also holds the German record over 4 times 100 meters (43.84 s). Thomas Röhler was allowed to participate for Germany in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro and was crowned Olympic champion in the javelin throw with a width of 90.30 m.
