Alyn Camara (born March 31, 1989 in Bergisch Gladbach ) is a German athlete specializing in the long jump . As a teenager he also competed in hurdles and all- around competitions , but after an injury he concentrated on the long jump.

Athletic career

In 2010 Camara was German junior long jump champion, in 2011 and 2012 third in long jump at the German indoor championships , in 2012 third at the German championships and in 2013 German champion .

In 2012 Camara started at the European Championships in Helsinki , but could not qualify for the final with 7.80 m with a required qualification distance of 8.05 m in the preliminary fight. He was then also nominated for the Olympic Games in London , where he was eliminated in the preliminary fight. His best performance in 2012 was 8.20 m. With 8.29 m he set his personal best on June 15, 2013 in Bad Langensalza. He won the long jump competition at the German Championships on 6/7 with 8.15 m . July 2013 in Ulm , but five weeks later at the World Championships in Moscow did not get beyond the qualification.

In 2015 Camara became the German indoor champion with a personal best indoor performance of 7.97 m . At the European Indoor Championships that followed three weeks later , however, he jumped only 7.70 m and thus reached 7th place. At the 2015 European Team Championship in Cheboksary (Russia), Camara achieved a width of 8.11 m and finished the competition in third place. With 10 points, he helped the team of the German Athletics Association (DLV) to second place behind hosts Russia. It was the first competition in which he was able to surpass the eight-meter mark in the jersey of the national team.

In 2016 Camara won the German championship title both indoors and outdoors . At the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , he was eliminated in qualification.

In 2017 he came in fifth at the German indoor championships in Leipzig and 6th at the German championships in Erfurt .

Club affiliations

Camara started with athletics at the sports club DJK Löwe Köln , moved to ASV Köln and has been training with TSV Bayer 04 Leverkusen since 2005 . Since 2017 Camara starts again for ASV Cologne.
