history
The community is located in the Daunier settlement area . During the later Roman rule it was a small settlement ( oppidulum ). In a medieval document, Castelluccio dei Sauri is mentioned in 1118 in a gift from Robert II of Loritello. In 1273 the place was owned by Hugo von Brienne , Duke of Brienne and Lecce .
At the end of the 14th and the beginning of the 15th century, the place became depopulated and in 1446 it was repopulated by around 60 families from Albania who introduced the Greek Orthodox rite. After the destruction by the viceroy Pedro Álvarez de Toledo in 1549, Castelluccio became a fief of the Guevara family in 1564 and remained so until the abolition of feudalism by Joseph Bonaparte at the beginning of the 19th century.
In 1980 the community was badly damaged by an earthquake.
