Chieuti (in Arbëresh , IPA : [ ar'bəreʃ ] : Qiefti ) is an Italian municipality ( comune ) with 1618 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Foggia in Apulia .

Location and dates

Chieuti is about 53 kilometers northwest of Foggia , borders directly on the province of Campobasso ( Molise ) and is about 9 km south on the Adriatic coast .

Fractions of Chieuti are Fantina Prima , Masseria Viarelle, Podere San Nicola and Marina di Chieuti on the Adriatic . Adjacent municipalities are: Campomarino (CB) and San Martino in Pensilis (CB) in Molise and Serracapriola in Apulia.

The origin of the name

The name Chieuti seems to have grown together from Chiuri and Pleuti.

traffic

The Autostrada A14 and Strada Statale 16 Adriatica run through the municipality along the Adriatic coast. The former Strada Statale 16ter Adriatica (today: Provincial Road 142) led from Campomarino to San Severo along the western edge of the municipality . The Chieuti and Serracapriola train stations are on the Adriatic Railway .
