Campomarino (in the Arbëresh dialect Këmarini ) is an Italian commune ( comune ) with 7837 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Campobasso in the Molise region . The municipality is located about 53 kilometers from Campobasso and borders directly on the province of Foggia on the Adriatic Sea . Here the Biferno flows into the Adriatic.
history
The municipality had been inhabited by people since the 19th and 18th centuries BC. Albanians settled here from the 15th century.
traffic
The A14 runs through the municipality along the Adriatic coast from Bologna , Rimini and Ancona towards Foggia , Bari and Taranto . Strada Statale 16 Adriatica is even closer to the coast in the municipality . In the main town of the municipality there is a train station on the Ancona – Lecce railway line . The train station in the Nuova Cliternia district has now been closed. At Campomarino there is a small airfield ( Aviosuperficie ) for general aviation .
