Baranello is an Italian commune ( comune ) with 2582 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Campobasso in Molise . The municipality is located about 10 kilometers west-southwest of Campobasso . The western boundary of the municipality forms the Biferno .

history

The name is derived from Monte Varaino , on the top of which there was a Samnite village. Today there is an archaeological excavation area.

Strada Statale 647 Fondo Valle della Biferno runs along the Biferno . The Baranello train station is on the Isernia – Campobasso or Benevento – Campobasso lines.
