Petacciato is an Italian commune ( comune ) with 3724 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Campobasso in Molise . The municipality is located about 52 kilometers north-northwest of Campobasso on the Adriatic coast .
history
With earthquakes in 1117, 1125 and 1456, settlement on the Adriatic coast was repeatedly made difficult. In terms of military history, the municipality was affected by the invasion of the Goths, the Byzantines and the Lombards in the early Middle Ages. In 1463 there was a battle between the Anjou family and the Crown of Aragon . A little later the Turks invaded the Italian peninsula at this point.
traffic
The A14 autostrada from Bologna towards Taranto and the Strada Statale 16 Adriatica run through the municipality along the coast, largely in parallel . Together with the neighboring town of Montenero di Bisaccia, there is a train station on the Adriatic Railway from Ancona to Lecce .
